
Lorraine has a very 'hands-on' physiotherapy approach which includes various manual therapy techniques. She combines expert manual therapy with specific exercise prescriptions, medical acupuncture & dry needling, and pain neuroscience education to achieve excellent clinical results for her patients.
Her areas of interest include:
- Chronic headache - including migraine, tension-type, and cervicogenic headaches
- Temporomandibular Joint Disorders (TMD)
- Persistent neck and low back pain
- Lower limb biomechanics
Lorraine qualified as a Chartered Physiotherapist from the University College Dublin (UCD) in 1999. She was then awarded the prestigious Masters in Manipulative Physiotherapy at the University of Queensland, Australia, in 2001. Lorraine has also attained post-graduation certifications in Medical Acupuncture and is a Certified Stott Pilates instructor.
Lorraine was involved in the establishment and accreditation of the UCD Masters in Neuromusculoskeletal Physiotherapy in 2006, the first course in Ireland accredited by the International Federation of Orthopaedic Manipulative Therapy. She lectured, examined, and tutored extensively on this course until May 2018.
Lorraine also lectured regularly on the Diploma in Musculoskeletal Medicine course run by the Irish College of General Practitioners and the Faculty of Sports & Exercise Medicine, Dublin, in lower limb pathologies and biomechanics. Alongside her husband, Simon Coghlan, she taught many medical acupuncture and dry needling education courses.
Lorraine's extensive career experience also includes a strong focus on complex sporting injuries. In 2003 Lorraine was the lead physiotherapist with the touring Riverdance troupe in the USA. She has also worked with the Irish swimming team and the Leinster rugby medical team.
Lorraine has over 20 years of experience as a clinic owner, lead physiotherapist, and educator at Mount Merrion Physiotherapy & Health, which developed a reputation for clinical excellence in the private physiotherapy sector in Dublin, Ireland.
Lorraine, her husband, and two children moved to the Sunshine Coast in January 2022. Lorraine is delighted to bring her considerable experience and skills to the region, where she intends to make a strong contribution to the health and well-being of the local community.
Outside her clinical practice, Lorraine enjoys family time, running, swimming, the beach, Pilates & Yoga, and tasty healthy cooking!
