Lorraine has undergone extensive post-graduate training in biomechanics and orthotic prescription. She advises the Irish College of General Practitioners on this topic through a series of lectures run annually.
By consultation she will carry out a complete assessment of your footwear requirements. This may be necessary to ensure comfort while walking, to assist in pain and injury management or to prevent injury due to biomechanical factors.
We stock a range of podiatric shoes, slippers and sandals by Strive Footwear, suitable for those who struggle to find comfortable shoes which look great as well.
For your needs we can also source a wide range of the highest quality shoes, devices and orthopaedic aids from our network of suppliers which we provide at very competitive prices.
The orthotic adjusts your ankle and foot posture by raising different areas of the foot by a number of carefully measured degrees. This may be necessary to reduce strain on certain joints or tendons or to shift the focus of active muscles allowing for pain relief and rehabilitation. Orthotics are also effective to correct postural alignment resulting from excessive pronation, supination or leg length discrepancies.
Orthotics are helpful in the treatment of:
A full lower limb and gait assessment together with an understanding of the clients practical needs will determine if and what style of orthoses is required. A thorough prescription process is available to establish the precise design specifications required. This may include the use of foot sketches, foam box impression sets, plaster casting or video analysis.
Custom made orthoses can be constructed in different lengths, widths, thicknesses and density, either to specially fit one shoe type or to be a more general fit for all shoe types. Orthoses are commonly used in everyday casual and work footwear, in sport shoes and can even come in slim fit design to fit narrower shoes often worn by women. If necessary, clients are offered 1 free adjustment or trimming of the orthoses within 3 months of order.
Orthotics we supply are made from high quality, durable materials so each pair can be expected to give up to 2 years of reliable use. It is also possible to have orthoses refurbished at low cost with new heel pads and coverings which can considerably extend the life of the device.
A customised and removable device means you can easily place the orthoses/insoles in different shoes on different days, giving you the greatest flexibility while ensuring the same tailored support, otherwise not possible in regular shoes.
